  1. Try the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. Excellent writing, historical fiction (WWI and WWII time frame) with very well developed characters. Best read in the order she wrote the 13 books in the series. I’ve read the first 12 and the 13th is due out March 14.

  2. Martin Beck novels by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. They were planned, written and published in the order to be read – there are only ten books – ten absolutely perfect novels.
